Nyandarua: Interfaith Council in Nyandarua County has called for peaceful campaigns and subsequent voting in the coming by-election for the Ol-Kalou Parliamentary seat.
According to Kenya News Agency, as both the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Democratic Change Party (DCP) prepare for their respective party primaries, the Interfaith Council is urging leaders and local residents to foster and observe peaceful nominations. The council, led by Chairman Archbishop Josam Kariuki, Secretary Fr. James Nduati, and Muslim counterpart Sheik Salim Mohamed, emphasized that a lack of peace could disrupt businesses in the constituency.
The council further noted that disruptions during nominations and the by-election could impact the residents’ daily routines. They urged the residents of Ol-Kalou to maintain peace, highlighting that development cannot occur without it. After a closed-door meeting in Ol-Kalou town, the religious leaders also called on the county’s security agencies to ensure all polling stations are secured promptly.
Additionally, the council urged impartiality from parties during the primaries and advocated for peaceful by-election campaigns to ensure fairness for all candidates and their supporters. The Ol-Kalou Parliamentary seat became vacant following the passing of David Njuguna Kiaraho, who succumbed to illness early last month.
