Nandi:Nandi East Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Ngalia Ndaya, has issued a warning to residents against the consumption of illicit brew. He emphasized the importance of community involvement in assisting authorities to curb the issue.
According to Kenya News Agency, DCC Ndaya highlighted the risk posed by the availability of illicit brew, particularly during school holidays, as it might attract school-going children. He urged residents to actively participate in preventing children from being exposed to this vice.
At an event held at Ol’lessos National Polytechnic, DCC Ndaya condemned the production of Chang’aa, equating it to other crimes. He stated, “Processing of Chang’aa is illegal. Processing Chang’aa is a crime just like stealing cattle.” He stressed the need for a collective effort to eliminate the illicit brew, which he noted has claimed many lives.
The administrator also addressed cultural practices that involve consuming Chang’aa during circumcision ceremonies, warning that such practices pose life-threatening risks. He urged parents to closely monitor their school-age children during the holidays to protect them from early pregnancies that could disrupt their education.
Furthermore, DCC Ndaya called on the community to support students sitting for national examinations by providing a distraction-free environment and discouraging any form of exam malpractice. He encouraged students to focus on their studies and perform well in their exams.
