Ahero Municipality Initiates Infrastructure Projects to Enhance Drainage and Security

Ahero:The Ahero-Awasi Municipality in Kisumu County has initiated contracts for three projects aimed at enhancing the drainage system, security, and urban environment in Ahero town. These initiatives include constructing storm water drainage, greening and landscaping, and installing a solar-powered high-mast floodlight at the Ahero interchange.

According to Kenya News Agency, these projects are part of Phase II of the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP II), funded by the World Bank. The program seeks to expand the municipality’s stormwater drainage capacity and strengthen infrastructure resilience against extreme rainfall and future climate-related challenges.

Municipality Manager Lazarus Orengo highlighted the program’s objective to improve drainage, enhance public safety with better lighting, and create a greener urban environment. Municipal Engineer and Project Manager Steve Ogony emphasized the project’s focus on flood control measures, stone pitching, and the installation of a high-mast floodlight to boost security at the Ahero Interchange.

Ogony further noted the project’s anticipated impact on improving drainage systems, reducing storm water runoff, and contributing to public safety and the town’s aesthetic appeal. The assessment and site visit have been completed, and the contractor is ready to commence project implementation.

The completion of these drainage works, lighting installation, and greening activities is expected to lead to better urban infrastructure and a safer, more inviting environment in Ahero.
