Lari MP Launches Sh76 Million Bursary Disbursement

Nairobi: The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has announced the launch of the distributed renewable energy and clean cooking Project Preparation Facility

Lari: The Member of Parliament for Lari Constituency, Mburu Kahangara, on Tuesday officially launched the 2026 bursary issuance programme for boarding schools, colleges, and universities, marking the beginning of a constituency-wide initiative aimed at alleviating the financial burden on families across Lari’s diverse wards.

According to Kenya News Agency, the inaugural ceremony, held at Kimende Secondary School grounds, drew students, parents, and education stakeholders from Lari/Kirenga and Kijabe wards. This year, the constituency will disburse a total of Sh76 million in bursaries, targeting all Lari students enrolled in boarding secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

The event was graced by Alice Ng’ang’a, Member of Parliament for Thika Town Constituency, whose presence added weight to the significance of the occasion. Speaking at the event, Ng’ang’a underscored the transformative power of education as a national investment. ‘When we invest in our children’s education, we secure the future of our families and the strength of our nation,’ she said, drawing sustained applause from the audience gathered on the school grounds.

Kahangara used the occasion to highlight key development milestones recorded across the constituency, including progress in school infrastructure, the construction of administrative offices, and the ongoing upgrading of road networks. He pointed out roads that have already been tarmacked and outlined those earmarked for upgrading before the year ends, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to holistic development.

The MP also renewed his push for the tap to eat campaign, stressing that no student from a day school should be found on public roads during school hours. He called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to enforce discipline and ensure that school time is fully utilized for learning.

The ward-by-ward bursary issuance is scheduled to continue throughout the week, with Nyanduma Ward at Kagwe Stadium on Wednesday, Kinale Ward at Gathwariga Grounds on Thursday, and Kamburu Ward at the Kamburu Chief’s Office Grounds on Friday. Officials urged eligible students and guardians to turn up in good time with the required documentation to facilitate a smooth issuance process.
