Amman:UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell has concluded a two-day visit to Jordan, during which she engaged with children at a community center managed by the Jordan River Foundation. This foundation collaborates with UNICEF to offer education, protection, and support to vulnerable families.
According to Jordan News Agency, Russell held discussions with Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Azmi Mahafzah and Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa to assess current needs. She highlighted Jordan’s robust national policies, including the 2022 Child Rights Law, and strategies aimed at social protection and youth empowerment, which ensure children are universally enrolled in primary schools.
Russell commended Jordan for making remarkable progress in advancing children’s rights. She expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s achievements and reaffirmed UNICEF’s dedication to supporting the government’s initiatives to transform school enrollment into quality learning and create employment opportunities.
Despite these advances, Russell cautioned that declining international funding threatens the ability to maintain core services. She called upon global donors to provide flexible, multi-year funding to address this issue.
