TVET Institutions Strengthen Industry Collaboration for Skill Development

Eldoret:Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions are intensifying their collaboration with industry stakeholders to ensure graduates acquire skills that align with labor market demands.

According to Kenya News Agency, TVET Director Tom Otieno emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting industry-driven training. This initiative aims to equip learners with practical skills, enhancing their employability and facilitating their integration into the job market. Otieno, speaking at the Eldoret National Polytechnic during its 15th Annual International Research Conference, highlighted the approach of training with, from, and for the industry.

Otieno, representing the Principal Secretary for TVET, Dr. Esther Muoria, noted a positive shift in young people’s attitudes towards vocational education, as evidenced by approximately 26,000 students choosing TVET institutions over university last year. He praised this as a powerful indicator of the growing recognition of technical training as a viable career path.

He also commended the Eldoret National Polytechnic for sustaining the annual conference for 15 years, emphasizing the dedication and consistency required for such long-term initiatives.

Meanwhile, Dr. Charles Koech, Chief Principal of Eldoret National Polytechnic, stated that this year’s conference included a hackathon, an innovation challenge, and an exhibition focused on agricultural extension services. The institution engaged farmers through extension activities and planned to announce innovation competition winners.

The conference serves as a platform for researchers, innovators, and industry stakeholders to showcase research, exchange ideas, and promote innovation and skills development.
