Nyeri: The Government has released a total of Sh28.8 million to 4,800 families in Nyeri registered under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) program. The Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services yesterday announced the release of funds under the CT-OVC program for the months of April, May and June.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Ministry stated that the money had been disbursed to the respective households’ accounts and was available for withdrawal through the contracted Payment Service Providers (PSP). Payments commenced on July 31, 2026, with each household expected to receive Sh6,000.
Nyeri County Children Services Coordinator, Joseph Mburu, informed KNA that the Sh2,000 disbursement released last week covers April, May, and June. He clarified that preparations for the July payment are advanced and will be completed soon. Mburu mentioned that this development is beneficial for both guardians and children enrolled in the program.
The funds can be accessed via normal e-wallet channels or withdrawn at any Mpesa agent without cost. The Ministry advised beneficiaries to confirm receipt of official notification from their PSPs before visiting a paying agent. Those facing difficulties in accessing funds are urged to visit the nearest sub County, County, or Regional Children’s office or call the toll-free number ‘1533’ for assistance.
Mburu also addressed eligible households not yet registered in the system, advising patience until the next scale-up exercise is announced. His office will coordinate with relevant stakeholders to inform the public through appropriate channels once the government approves new registrations.
Currently, only households in the existing register are being served. The last government disbursement for the CT-OVC happened in March when Sh860,396,000 was allocated to 430,198 households nationwide.
The Government operates three cash transfer programs: Persons with Severe Disabilities (PWSDs), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), and Older Persons (OP-CT). As of July 2024, data from the Social Protection and Citizens Services office shows 22,000 individuals were enlisted in Nyeri under the Inua Jamii program, with 17,000 under OP-CT, 4,000 under OVC, and 1,300 under PWSDs.
In June, the Government launched an Enhanced Single Register for all eligible individuals under the Consolidated Cash Transfer Program Management Information System (CCTPMIS), a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at creating a unified database for social protection beneficiaries. Under CCTPMIS, OVCs and PWSDs receive their payments through Mpesa accounts, unlike previous bank account transactions.
