Kenya Technical Institutes National Ball Games Commence in Nyandarua

Nyandarua:The second edition of the Kenya Technical Institutes National Ball Games has commenced in Nyandarua County, featuring teams from technical training institutions nationwide competing in various sports.

According to Kenya News Agency, the three-day event, scheduled from Thursday, November 5, to Saturday, November 7, 2026, includes competitions in football, netball, basketball, and rugby for both men and women, along with activities for students with special needs.

The event is hosted by Nyandarua National Polytechnic under Chief Principal Dr. Jane Gitau and organized by the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI). It takes place in locations such as Nyandarua National Polytechnic, AHITI, Kianjata, Oljororok, Nyahururu Stadium, and Laikipia University grounds.

KATTI National Chairman for Sports and Recreation, Idd Faraj, cautioned against the inclusion of non-students, known as ‘mamuluki’ or mercenary players, warning that violators would face a three-year ban from the games. Plans are also in progress to initiate East African Technical Training Institutions Games.

Dr. Esther Muoria, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, encouraged participants to exhibit sportsmanship and discipline, emphasizing the role of sports in character development. Her message, delivered by Joyce Mwale, highlighted the importance of respect, rule observance, and talent development.

These annual games aim to showcase sporting talents, promote inclusivity, and enhance interaction among technical institutions across the country.
