Nairobi: Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka has announced plans for the construction of a Sh40 million bridge linking Mwikalikha and Emuruba in Kisa North Ward to ease the movement of goods and services in the area.
According to Kenya News Agency, Aseka, speaking during a public participation forum, stated that the bridge would provide a permanent crossing over the river, which has been a major obstacle to movement between the two communities. The project aims to support farmers and traders by improving the link between the sub-locations and nearby markets.
Aseka emphasized that the improved connection would enhance local economic activity by making the movement of farm produce and other commodities more efficient. The bridge is part of a broader development programme targeting key infrastructure and basic services in the sub-locations.
Additionally, Aseka mentioned the ongoing last-mile electricity connectivity programme designed to extend the national grid to all remaining mapped areas, thereby bringing electricity to more households and businesses. Furthermore, a community water project is being drilled at Ekonjero Shopping Centre to improve access to water.
The MP highlighted that these projects aim to address infrastructure gaps and create better conditions for economic growth and improved livelihoods in the area.
