Reading Marathon Launches Under ‘Jordan Reads’ Initiative

Amman:The 2026 Reading Marathon began on Tuesday under the slogan “Jordan Reads,” organized by the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation (AHSF) alongside the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development. This event coincides with National Reading Day, which takes place annually on September 29.

According to Jordan News Agency, the marathon aims to foster a culture of reading and engagement among the community through an interactive and enjoyable environment. It seeks to introduce readers to new literature and embed reading into daily life.

The Greater Amman Municipality is participating in the Reading Marathon for the fourth time through its Public Libraries Department, involving 20 subsidiary libraries, including Al-Raya Al-Hashimiya, Al-Bashaer, Umm Al-Muminin, and others. GAM has been a pivotal partner of AHSF in organizing the event to cultivate a sustainable reading culture and enhance community involvement.

GAM is supporting this year’s marathon by offering 1,000 books, derived from donations and publications, as gifts for readers. It is also partaking in cultural activities, promoting the event through advertisements on bridges and main squares, and equipping bus rapid transit stations with QR codes for accessing e-books from the AHSF Library.

The Reading Marathon is globally inspired, encouraging collective reading in an engaging manner with cultural activities such as book signings, storytelling sessions, and book clubs, which add variety and enthusiasm to the experience, motivating participants to continue their reading journey.
