Petra:The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO), has organized a legal training session for workers in Petra’s tourism sector. The training aims to enhance awareness of legal protections at the workplace and promote active participation in unions.
According to Jordan News Agency, the session is part of the second phase of the “Union Power for a More Inclusive and Gender-Equal World of Work” project. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Decent Work for Women Programme, with funding support from the government of Norway.
The training included case studies and group exercises, focusing on basic labor rights and obligations such as work contracts, wages, working hours, and leave. It also addressed protections under social security law, covering topics such as work injuries, maternity, unemployment, and old age. Additionally, the session tackled issues of workplace violence and harassment, discussing protection mechanisms and the process for filing complaints.
Federation President Khaled Fanatsa emphasized that the training reflects the federation’s commitment to expanding union and awareness efforts and reaching workers at their workplaces, in alignment with its strategic and reform objectives.
