Irbid:The Reading Marathon commenced in Irbid Governorate, organized by the Irbid Directorate of Culture to advocate for a reading culture and encourage community participation, especially among children, to engage with cultural and literary publications.
According to Jordan News Agency, the event featured the distribution of approximately 2,000 books and magazines from the Ministry of Culture’s publications. These were made available at the Irbid Cultural Center and the Al-Hussein Bin Talal Library, catering to both adults and children, with a variety of cultural magazines to match diverse interests and age groups.
The marathon also included a children’s cultural competition, with incentive prizes provided in collaboration with the “Aqhuwan Malka” Association. This initiative aimed to motivate children to read, offering an interactive experience that merges learning with enjoyment and constructive competition.
Sultan Al-Zghoul, the Director of Culture in Irbid, emphasized that the Reading Marathon launch is part of the directorate’s efforts to make books accessible across society. He underscored the significance of reaching young people with books as a cornerstone of the cultural programs implemented by the directorate.
Al-Zghoul highlighted that distributing 2,000 books and magazines is a step towards reinforcing the presence of books in society and making cultural and knowledge publications accessible to readers. He also noted the importance of partnerships with cultural institutions and associations in executing activities that spread knowledge and promote reading among all.
Furthermore, he pointed out that organizing the cultural competition and offering prizes is meant to encourage children to read from a young age and explore their talents and capabilities. He affirmed the commitment of the Irbid Directorate of Culture to continue implementing programs and activities that target various age groups, enhancing the role of cultural centers and libraries as hubs for knowledge, learning, and community engagement.
