Eldoret:Uasin Gishu: Police are increasing their efforts to combat illicit alcohol, drugs, and crime in Uasin Gishu County and the broader North Rift region, as announced by Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat.
According to Kenya News Agency, security agencies are focusing on operations targeting individuals involved in the manufacture and distribution of illicit alcohol and bhang. Lagat emphasized that those found guilty will face legal action.
Lagat, speaking at the launch of a Police Mosque in Eldoret, encouraged the public to collaborate with security agencies by providing information to help prevent and combat crime. Efforts are being made to strengthen cooperation with communities, religious leaders, and the media to improve security and enhance information sharing.
He noted a decline in incidents involving firearms and mentioned that ongoing security operations have led to the arrest of several suspects linked to criminal activities. However, the police continue to pursue individuals involved in mobile phone theft.
Lagat expressed concern over increased raids and livestock theft near the Turkana-West Pokot border, attributing some incidents to resource conflicts, particularly due to prolonged drought and competition for pasture and water.
Lastly, the Deputy Inspector General urged religious leaders to partner with the police in promoting peace and stability, especially in anticipation of the Mashujaa Day celebrations and the 2027 General Election. He stressed that strong cooperation between the police and communities is vital for building public trust, reducing suspicion, and encouraging residents to share information with security agencies.
