Lari:The National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) has delivered two 5,000-litre water tanks to Kambaa Girls Secondary School and Wangware Junior School in Lari Constituency. This initiative aims to enhance water storage and availability for students.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kiambu Women Representative Anne Muratha officiated the handover ceremony, emphasizing that the tanks fulfilled a pledge made after the schools requested assistance to improve water access.
This effort addresses ongoing water supply challenges in parts of Lari. A public participation report from Kiambu County has previously highlighted a water shortage in the Kirenga area, suggesting measures such as repairing boreholes and improving water distribution.
The Limuru Water and Sewerage Company, which services the Lari and Limuru sub-counties, has listed the Lari/Kinale zone among areas that receive water on a scheduled basis, with an average supply of approximately 14 hours daily and moderate pressure.
In February, Muratha also delivered water tanks to Chief Wandie, Thindigua, and Benson Njau Comprehensive Schools to enhance hygiene and learning conditions. Additionally, NGAAF launched a sanitary towel distribution program targeting girls in junior secondary schools across multiple constituencies in Kiambu County.
Muratha emphasized that the provision of water and sanitary towels would significantly enhance the dignity of girls during their monthly periods at school. NGAAF’s broader mandate includes economic empowerment, basic social services, and educational support for various disadvantaged groups, including women, youth, and vulnerable children. Its initiatives encompass bursaries, scholarships, water infrastructure, and sanitary provisions to support schools through both infrastructure and learner-focused interventions.
