Nairobi: Malindi Member of Parliament (MP), Amina Mnyazi, has urged Coast residents to boost their voter numbers ahead of the 2027 General Election, warning that without adequate numbers at the ballot, the region risks marginalization.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mnyazi emphasized that the upcoming 2027 elections will hinge on a region’s ability to muster votes. She highlighted that while other regions have millions of votes, the Coast region only holds 1.9 million, which puts them at a disadvantage in national politics.
This disparity, she noted, had left the region politically vulnerable, as its leaders cannot confidently bargain for a bigger stake in the national political arena. Mnyazi expressed concern that other regions boast significant numbers, with regions such as Central claiming seven million votes, while the Luhya and Kamba communities have five million and three million, respectively.
Ms. Mnyazi made these remarks during the foundation-laying ceremony for the construction of the Goshi Chief’s Office in Kakuyuni Ward, funded by the Malindi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF). She pledged to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts to double the region’s voter numbers.
The legislator expressed her ambition for the Coast to have a more substantial voter base by the next election cycle. She affirmed that the region’s strength lies in its votes and emphasized the importance of having a robust voter turnout to ensure the Coast is not marginalized.
In addition, Kakuyuni Ward Representative Morris Hinzano warned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against engaging in divisive politics, advocating for national unity and the appreciation of every community within Kenya.
