Low Turnout at Kamwangi Huduma Centre Sparks Concern

Kamwangi:A concern has been raised about the low number of people utilizing the services at the Kamwangi Huduma Centre, with officials urging residents of Gatundu North and Gatundu South to make better use of the facility.

According to Kenya News Agency, data from the centre indicates that since its opening in January, approximately 44,578 people have accessed its services. Officials consider this number low given the population in the two sub-counties and the demand for government services.

Susan Ndisya, the manager of Kamwangi Huduma Centre, expressed worry over the low turnout, stressing that the facility was created to provide essential government services closer to residents who previously had to travel several kilometers to the Huduma Centre in Thika town.

The Kamwangi Huduma Centre, situated in Chania Ward, Gatundu North, serves both Gatundu North and Gatundu South residents, offering services from various government agencies. Before its establishment, residents had to travel to Thika for services like civil registration, national identification documents, police clearance, and National Social Security Fund (NSSF) services, incurring extra transport costs and spending more time on the journey.

Ndisya emphasized that residents should take advantage of the centre instead of traveling to Thika for services that are now available locally. She also urged residents who had applied for national identity cards to collect them, noting that 91 uncollected IDs are currently at the centre.

She stressed that increased use of the facility would help residents save time and money spent on traveling to Thika, ensuring that the government services brought closer to the people are fully utilized.
