Kiambu:The Government continues its commitment to enhance digital learning through the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Phase II in Kiambu County. Sixteen schools in the Kiambu Sub-County have recently received digital learning equipment as part of this initiative.
According to Kenya News Agency, the distribution exercise, led by Patrick Mbatia, the ICT Authority officer in charge in Kiambu, involved delivering and installing digital learning equipment. Each of the beneficiary schools received a 65-inch interactive panel and a laptop for a teacher. The setup also included mounting and installation of necessary software to ensure the equipment’s full functionality.
Simon Wanjohi, the Kiambu County Director of Education, accepted the equipment on behalf of the schools. He expressed support for the initiative, stating that the programme would aid in integrating technology into teaching and learning. Wanjohi highlighted that providing digital equipment would improve access to technology for both learners and teachers, thereby enhancing the quality of education in the county.
The ICT Authority is implementing the DLP Phase II rollout under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), with assistance from the World Bank. The deployment of interactive panels and teacher laptops is intended to equip schools with tools for delivering lessons using digital content and to help teachers incorporate technology into classroom instruction.
This rollout is part of the Government’s broader efforts to expand digital infrastructure and skills in educational institutions. The DLP is a key programme aimed at preparing learners for a technology-driven economy. As the initiative progresses, the 16 schools in Kiambu Sub-County are expected to benefit significantly from the newly installed equipment. The ICT Authority continues to coordinate the implementation of these digital government initiatives, focusing on expanding access to technology and strengthening digital capacity nationwide.
