Kiambu County Announces Recruitment of 60 ECDE Teachers

Kiambu: The County Government of Kiambu has announced 60 vacancies for Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Teacher III positions under the County Public Service Board (CPSB), in a move aimed at strengthening early childhood education across the county.

According to Kenya News Agency, the teachers will serve under Job Group CPSB 11(H) in the Department of Education, Culture, Gender, and Social Services. Applicants are required to possess a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education, registration by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), computer skills, and at least two years of relevant experience.

Applications are expected to be submitted physically at the CPSB offices in Thika before May 23, 2026. The recruitment comes as Governor Kimani Wamatangi continues with the major transformation of the ECDE sector.

According to him, all the 524 public ECDE centres inherited after devolution were previously in poor condition, with dilapidated classrooms, leaking roofs, and inadequate sanitation facilities. In the last three years, Kiambu has completed more than 247 new model ECDE centres, while dozens more are under construction. The modern facilities include PP1 and PP2 classrooms, teachers’ offices, child-friendly toilets, and playgrounds.

‘We are constructing new model ECDE centres and renovating existing ones to provide modern facilities akin to those found in private kindergartens,’ Wamatangi said during the rollout of the programme. The governor has also defended the county’s ‘Maziwa Freshi na Wamatangi’ feeding programme, which provides porridge, eggs, and milk to learners in all public ECDE centres. According to the county government, enrolment has risen from about 32,000 learners to more than 39,000 following the introduction of the programme.

‘Research consistently underscores the importance of early childhood education, revealing that a positive first impression of school significantly influences a child’s lifelong attitude toward learning,’ Wamatangi said. At the same time, Kiambu County is also reconstituting key public service structures. On March 12, 2026, the County Assembly Committee on Public Service and Administration vetted five nominees proposed by Governor Kimani Wamatangi to serve in the County Public Service Board Selection Panel.

The nominees included Mr. Peter Njoroge Baiya, who was proposed as Chairperson, alongside Dr. Zablon Bundi Mutongu, Ms. Margaret Wanjiku Kamau, Ms. Rosemary Waweru, and Mr. Peter Njoroge Wangui as members.
