Kericho: The Kericho sitting volleyball team from Kipkelion sub-county delivered a convincing performance against the Ainamoi sub-county team during the finals of the inaugural KKK sitting volleyball tournament held at the Kiprugut Chumo Stadium in Kericho County. The team, featuring both men and women, performed admirably at the sidelines of the Kiprugut Chumo football pitch with a 1-0 straight-sets victory, showcasing their dominance with scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 15-10.
According to Kenya News Agency, the players, all with physical disabilities, were a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication throughout their month-long training for the KKK tournament, which was sponsored by Senator and Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot. Speaking to KNA, head coach Paul Byegon praised the team’s performance and expressed gratitude for the sponsor’s support for athletes with disabilities.
Former Kericho MCA Geoffrey Bill, a representative of persons with disabilities, attended the game, highlighting the importance of inclusivity in sports. Sitting volleyball is played by athletes with physical disabilities, often those with lower limb impairments, and follows similar rules to traditional volleyball, with teams hitting the ball over a lower net while seated on the floor.
