Nairobi: The Kenya Power Foundation has injected Sh20 million towards a series of nationwide community initiatives under its Wezesha Jamii programme, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable social impact across the country.
According to Kenya News Agency, Wezesha Jamii is an employee-driven program initiated by Kenya Power to foster good relations and champion impactful programmes in the communities it operates. The month-long initiative targets over 20 community projects spread across education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and social welfare sectors.
Speaking during the Foundation’s Luku Safi event in Nairobi, Kenya Power Foundation Patron and Chairperson Logan Christi Hambrick underscored the importance of the projects, saying, ‘Wezesha Jamii is all about enabling our communities to do more and become better. By supporting schools, health programmes and key environmental projects, we are championing dignity and creating empowered societies. This is at the heart of our Foundation’s mission to transform lives and create impact.’
Hambrick reaffirmed the Foundation’s mission to empower communities and transform lives through sustainable, inclusive, and impactful social investments. ‘Wezesha Jamii will support over 20 projects. Through our Education and Skills Development Pillar, for instance, we seek to do classroom renovations, construct sanitation facilities, build ICT laboratories, and perform dormitory upgrades. But we are not stopping here, we are championing community wellness through medical camps, health facility renovations, and assistive equipment for differently-abled children,’ she said.
In the planned rollout, some of the beneficiary institutions include Kakamega High School, Mabanga RC Primary School in Bungoma, Muguna Comprehensive School in Siaya, Wikoteng Primary School in Homa Bay, Nyamuga Comprehensive School in Rongo, Chief Mbogori Girls’ High School, Lamu Girls Secondary School, Rabai Secondary School, Kabarnet High School in Baringo, and Chepngochoch Primary and Junior Secondary School in Uasin Gishu.
In West Pokot, the Foundation will support vulnerable children at Perur Rays of Hope Rescue Centre, while in Korogocho, Nairobi, the Foundation will help in the purchase of assistive and therapy equipment at the Light and Hope for Disabled Children institution.
The initiative will conclude in Nyamira County at Danes Eronge Secondary School, marking the culmination of a comprehensive, multi-county engagement drive. The Kenya Power Foundation operates under three key pillars: Energy and Environment, Education and Skills Development, and Social Investment and Community Wellness and continues to leverage partnerships to scale its impact across all 47 counties.
