Kajiado: Residents of Kajiado North Sub-County organized peace and consultative meetings to foster harmonious living among communities in preparation for the International Day of Peace celebrations.

According to Kenya News Agency, the event began with a peace caravan that journeyed through Ongata Rongai and Kiserian townships. The event attracted youthful participants who engaged the cosmopolitan society with dances and songs promoting peace. Members of the civil society and government officials participated in the procession, advocating for peace-building and harmony. The caravan made several stops, culminating in a baraza in Kiserian.

The joint baraza addressed topics such as peace and security, development, substance abuse, unity, and collaboration between sub-counties. Speakers emphasized the importance of harmonious relationships and unity, urging the community to avoid tribalism and negative politics, especially among the youth.

Yusuf Mohammed, the Kajiado North DCC, highlighted the importance of peace and good neighborliness, urging residents to educate one another on peaceful coexistence. He thanked the peace committee for organizing the caravan and acknowledged the support from both businesses and residents.

Metrine Wafula, DCC from Ongata Rongai, emphasized the significance of peace and security, encouraging the community to share intelligence with security agencies for prompt action. She also urged young people to use social media positively to promote peace.

Business leaders and officials have been organizing peace meetings to prevent unrest similar to the protests in June and July. Samuel Muchiri, Sub-County Administrator, encouraged youth participation and assured them that their voices would be heard.

Joseph Njoroge, representing the youth and the Global Hope Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, expressed gratitude to leaders for their support in rehabilitating young people. Since 2013, the center has helped numerous students access education, promoting responsible behavior among youth.

The International Day of Peace is observed globally on September 21, with the 2025 theme being ‘Act Now for a Peaceful World.’ Yusuf Mohammed urged Kajiado North residents to actively oppose violence and promote peace as preparations for the celebration continue.

The meeting also saw attendance from Sub-County Police Commanders, NACADA representatives, Assistant County Commissioners, and other officials.
