Nyando: Security officers in Nyando Sub-County, Kisumu County have netted 40.1 kilograms of bhang and arrested a female peddler amid intensified fight against drugs. Confirming the incident on Monday, Nyando Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Elijah Maranga revealed that the bhang was being stored and sold from a private home belonging to Herine Achieng’ in Kamidumbi village, Kakola Location.
According to Kenya News Agency, a multi-agency team led by the County Commissioner, Benson Leparmorijo, while acting on a tip-off from members of the public, conducted a 48-hour surveillance at Achieng’s residence, leading to her arrest. The security officers concluded a raid lasting two days from Sunday to Monday at around 4:30 am, arresting Herine Achieng’ after she had locked herself inside the house since Sunday at around 1:30 pm.
During the raid, special papers used for rolling and packaging the substance were also impounded. The DCC reported that Achieng’ was found in possession of 40.1 kgs of assorted bhang, including long rolls of 154 pieces and 16 brooms, along with 4 packets of Rizla and 1 packet of supermatch cigarettes.
The suspect was taken to Ahero police station and is awaiting arraignment in court. Authorities have stated that detectives from the DCI have taken up the case as investigations continue. Maranga attributed the rise of criminal activities in the area to the availability of illicit drugs and cautioned those involved in illegal businesses that their days were numbered, declaring that authorities were on high alert to dismantle cartels in the area.
