Malawi Delegation Visits Bole Int’l Airport to Take Ethiopia’s Experience on MIDAS

Nairobi: The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has announced the launch of the distributed renewable energy and clean cooking Project Preparation Facility

A delegation from the Government of Malawi, accompanied by IOM staff, visited the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to gain insight into how the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS) developed by IOM operates.

The purpose of the study tour was to equip Malawian officials with a comprehensive understanding of MIDAS for effective border management, according to IOM.

The visit highlighted Ethiopia’s successful implementation of MIDAS for visa processing and issuance, as well as the airport’s proficiency in travel document examination.

Officers from Immigration Citizenship Services and IOM Ethiopia shared insights on collaboration, the MIDAS visa system, the forensic laboratory, and capacity development support.

The exchange of knowledge and experiences remains crucial for enhancing Border Management capabilities and fostering effective collaboration in the field, especially when the Government of Malawi plans to collaborate with IOM for the national implementation of MIDAS in Malawi.
