Gatanga:Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to those involved in the manufacturing and sale of illicit and second-generation liquor, emphasizing the government’s relentless pursuit to combat this illegal trade.
According to Kenya News Agency, Prof. Kindiki, speaking during a development inspection tour in Gatanga, Murang’a County, underscored the government’s dedication to intensifying efforts against illicit brews. He highlighted the devastating impact these illegal activities have on young men, robbing them of their productive years and causing significant harm to families and communities.
Prof. Kindiki condemned the cartels involved in the illegal liquor trade, warning them of the government’s impending actions to dismantle their operations before further damage is done. The Deputy President detailed plans for a nationwide crackdown, treating the manufacture and sale of these brews as criminal activities, particularly due to the use of harmful substances.
While addressing concerns about legal alcohol, Prof. Kindiki clarified that the government’s focus is on those producing and distributing dangerous and poisonous substances. He criticized those doubting the government’s resolve in this fight and reaffirmed his commitment, drawing on his successful past efforts in combating terrorism and banditry.
He urged politicians to refrain from interfering with the government’s efforts, instead calling upon the public to aid in identifying those responsible for the illicit trade. Prof. Kindiki emphasized the role of citizens in providing information to help ensure regional safety from these harmful substances.
Murang’a County Women’s Representative Betty Maina echoed these concerns, highlighting the rise in drug abuse and illicit alcohol consumption among the youth. She called on residents to exercise caution and avoid dangerous drinks, reinforcing the government’s commitment to eradicating this menace.
Additionally, the Deputy President cautioned political leaders against exploiting young people for political violence, advocating for peaceful and responsible political engagement.
During his tour, Prof. Kindiki inspected ongoing development projects, including the construction of the Jogoo-Kimakia-Kigio-Kirwara road and the Kaguku-Ithanga ESP market, demonstrating the government’s investment in local infrastructure.
