Ngoliba: Residents of Ngoliba Ward Thika West Constituency got some reprieve after Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi visited them with goodies. The Governor distributed farm inputs and bursaries for needy learners during the exercise aimed to empower the community and ensure their livelihood were improved and local students were retained in school.
According to Kenya News Agency, at least seven thousand farmers received certified seeds, fertilizer, and avocado seedlings to boost their productivity and provide a sustainable economic impetus in their earnings. Addressing farmers during the event, Governor Wamatangi highlighted agriculture as a vital economic engine for Kiambu, pledging continued county support. He noted that his government remained committed to boosting farmer productivity through the strategic provision of certified and subsidized farming resources.
He further emphasized that supporting small-scale farmers is key to boosting Kiambu’s food production and that the focus on empowering farmers at the grassroots level was intended to enhance self-sufficiency and create wealth within local communities. ‘Our economy stands on the shoulders of our farmers. We must keep pouring resources into this sector to uplift every household and ensure that no family in our county goes without food.’ Noted the governor.
The farmers praised the initiative, noting that the soaring prices of agricultural supplies had previously placed farming out of reach for many families. With this timely intervention, they expressed renewed confidence in achieving a successful harvest in the next planting season. Additionally, the county boss complemented the agricultural drive by awarding bursaries to local students in need. He noted that supporting education remains a key pillar of his leadership, ensuring that vulnerable families receive the help necessary to keep their children in school.
He pointed out that no student’s education should be cut short by poverty. He explained that the county’s bursary scheme is specifically designed to bridge the financial gap for struggling parents, ensuring a seamless academic journey for the youth of Kiambu. Community members and leaders present at the event applauded the governor’s dual-focus strategy describing the combined delivery of farm inputs and bursaries as a meaningful investment that directly benefits families and accelerates the overall development of the ward.
This program is part of a county-wide effort to modernize farming in Kiambu. By delivering high-quality inputs and modern tools, the administration is helping local farmers move from traditional practices to sustainable, commercial-grade agribusiness. To strengthen food self-sufficiency, the county has expanded its distribution of seeds and fertilizers across all wards with efforts designed to jumpstart agricultural activity and ensure a consistent food supply for the local population.
