Migori: As the campaigns for the upcoming by-election intensify, senior government officials have actively joined the campaign trails to bolster support for candidates aligned with the broad-based government arrangement. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and his Energy and Petroleum counterpart, Opiyo Wandayi, have embarked on a vigorous campaign across the Nyanza region to ensure the victory of majority Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidates.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Cabinet Secretaries are on a whirlwind campaign to reinforce the Broad-Based Government and continue the legacy and aspirations of the late Raila Odinga. During a Women and Youth Empowerment fundraiser in North Kanyamkago Ward-Uriri Sub-County, Migori, both Mbadi and Wandayi urged residents to reject divisive politics, which they claim are intended to create tension and disrupt President Ruto’s development agenda.

The event, aimed at empowering small traders, particularly women, provided a platform for ODM leaders to advocate for cohesion and cooperation among party members. Both Wandayi and Mbadi, who have held various leadership roles within the ODM party before their Cabinet appointments, emphasized that the Broad-Based Government is the optimal path for Kenya and called for increased support.

Wandayi, who was elected as the Leader of the Minority Party in the 13th Parliament in September 2022, previously served as the Secretary for Political Affairs in ODM. Mbadi, a long-time Chairperson of ODM, highlighted that their appointments as Cabinet Secretaries signify the president’s willingness to collaborate with diverse leaders for national progress.

John Mbadi urged Kenyans to embrace the unity agenda, emphasizing that national peace is a catalyst for unbiased development. CS Wandayi reiterated the importance of party unity, asserting, “There is no way we can associate when we are separated.”
