Kuresoi south: Defense Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has challenged young people in Kuresoi South to utilize the Olenguruone stadium, once completed, to nurture their talents with a view to empower themselves economically. Speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony of the Olenguruone stadium on Monday, CS Tuya said the area has a rich history of producing world-class athletes such as Faith Kipyegon and Faith Cherutich, noting that the new stadium will provide a platform to identify and develop more sporting talents.
According to Kenya News Agency, the state-of-the-art facility with a holding capacity of 3,000 spectators, is expected to be completed within one year and will have a running track, javelin, shot put, long jump pitches, and other indoor games such as table tennis, volleyball, handball sections. A modern pavilion will also be part of the development. Tuya cautioned contractors against shoddy workmanship and emphasized the need for hiring local residents for labor required during the construction period.
Nakuru Governor, Susan Kihika who attended the function welcomed the project, saying it was a long-awaited dream after the stadium project stalled for over a decade. Kihika revealed that the County government was also working towards completing the Keringet high altitude sports complex stadium to further promote and monitor sporting talents in the county.
The Olenguruone stadium project is a joint initiative between the Nakuru County government and the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) initiated through a presidential directive. Meanwhile, the Defense CS cautioned residents against giving or offering bribes during the ongoing KDF recruitment exercise that officially kicked off yesterday, emphasizing that the process was a free, fair, and transparent one. She urged residents to report any cases of malpractice to ensure accountability and fairness in the exercise.
