Nyahururu: Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano has urged youths to utilize government opportunities to start their own businesses. Miano said the government is focusing on the youth by offering opportunities for special groups, encouraging them to utilize these chances for self-advancement.
According to Kenya News Agency, the CS emphasized the current challenges of a declining job market and suggested that entrepreneurship is a viable path for the youth, stating that what is essential for starting a business is a combination of courage, skills, and confidence. Miano highlighted the scarcity of formal jobs and the lack of satisfaction in available positions, advising the youth to venture into business.
Additionally, Miano noted it’s the government’s responsibility to enable individuals seeking to start businesses to access startup capital, with resources like the Kenya Development Corporation and Youth Fund available to assist in this endeavor. She encouraged the youths to acquire capacity building through institutions such as the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute, which helps young people with their startups, ideas, and incubation space.
The CS also pointed out that young people, being innovative and tech-savvy, have the potential to explore opportunities in the technology space, eco-tourism facilities, and virtual realities, serving clients globally. She urged the youth not to consider their ideas as small or unattainable but to package them confidently and start their ventures.
Furthermore, Miano advised young individuals to seek mentorship in business and warned against procrastination, emphasizing that there is never a perfect time to begin a business. She encouraged immediate action on their ideas for implementation.
To support this initiative, Miano promised to establish a hub in Nyahururu town to assist those in need of help in startup businesses. Meanwhile, during a forum involving over 40 Nyahururu town businesses, the CS launched a barber shop and spa for a youthful entrepreneur.
