Uasin gishu: Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth inclusivity in governance, stressing that involving young people in decision-making was critical to building a strong and sustainable future.
According to Kenya News Agency, speaking in Eldoret during the flag-off ceremony for youth participating in the International Youth Day celebrations, Dr. Bii said his government recognizes the youth as the county’s most energetic and innovative segment and was therefore deliberately creating opportunities for them to thrive.
Dr. Bii emphasized that young people are not just future leaders but also leaders of today. Through the Fanikisha Program, the county has established a framework that provides direct employment opportunities for young individuals. This initiative highlights the importance of integrating youth into the workforce and governance structures.
Moreover, the governor noted that beyond employment, the county is implementing continuous sensitization and training programs. These initiatives aim to enable young people to access government procurement opportunities, aligning with the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) policy.
Dr. Bii also highlighted sports development as a strategic focus for his administration. Sports are seen not only as a recreational activity but also as a viable avenue for youth to monetize their talents. The county is investing in facilities, tournaments, and training to ensure talented young people can compete at the highest levels, thereby promoting sports as an economic driver for the youth.
