Siaya: Youth in Siaya county marked Valentine’s Day by gathering at a public park to apply for national identity cards and register as voters. The event, held at the Governor’s Park in Siaya town, was organized by The Walter Okello Foundation and included a variety of entertainment activities.
According to Kenya News Agency, the event’s organizer, Walter Okello, emphasized the theme of Love, Leadership, and Unity. He highlighted the importance of civic engagement alongside the celebration, encouraging young people to obtain essential documents to participate in shaping the country’s future. Okello noted the significance of having an identity card not only for voter registration but also for engaging in national government activities.
Okello also advised the youth to leverage their talents to generate income, pointing out the dwindling availability of white-collar jobs. An official from the Walter Okello Foundation mentioned that, in addition to voter registration, participants received mentorship on monetizing their talents and starting successful businesses.
A content creator, Immaculate Awuor Nyar Abito, urged her peers not to lose hope over limited job opportunities, encouraging them to utilize smartphone applications to create income streams.
