Nairobi: Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, has urged the youth to take a leading role in shaping Kenya’s future by actively participating in policy-making, leadership, and oversight of development programmes. Koskei emphasized the importance of young people being at the center of national conversations regarding the country’s long-term development agenda, encouraging them to propose recommendations that align with their aspirations.
According to Kenya News Agency, Koskei stated, “It is our responsibility as the youth. The young people should be the ones who will sit at the table and start having that conversation, bringing in recommendations and suggestions that will ensure that as we are going forward, we have a document, and we have a plan that will make this country better than where we found it.” He highlighted the necessity of increased youth participation in both elective and appointive positions, as well as in the private sector, to ensure that development plans address the needs of the younger generation.
Koskei announced that the Government would soon facilitate youth engagements across the country, offering young people a platform to articulate their vision for Kenya over the next few decades. He encouraged the youth, especially in Nandi and other regions, to contribute ideas that could shape the country’s development priorities. “Vijana, nafasi ni yenu, lazima muchangie kabisa,” he urged, emphasizing the importance of youth seizing the opportunity to influence decision-making processes.
Furthermore, Koskei challenged the youth to not only participate in consultations but also oversee the implementation of resolutions and recommendations from these engagements. He called on leaders and stakeholders to support and encourage young people to assume leadership roles, underscoring their involvement as vital for securing a better future for Kenya.
Koskei made these remarks during a groundbreaking and foundation-stone-laying ceremony for a new cathedral at St. Peter’s Church Kapsabet earlier this week.
