Nyamira: Women and youth in Nyamira County have been challenged to form and register groups to benefit from government funding. Nyamira County Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi emphasized the numerous opportunities available for women and youths to improve their livelihoods through government funding initiatives aimed at supporting their enterprises.

According to Kenya News Agency, Momanyi made these remarks while distributing cheques to registered bodaboda riders in the Kitutu Masaba constituency. She urged young people and women not to rely solely on traditional employment opportunities but to utilize government financial support to create wealth and achieve economic stability.

Momanyi highlighted the availability of government financial programs such as the youth and women funds and the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA). She noted that these initiatives remain underutilized by women and youths and encouraged them to take advantage of these resources to start their investments and build their wealth.

She also stressed the importance of forming and registering groups to become eligible for government funding. Momanyi pointed out that idleness has led to various social issues, such as Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and gambling among youths. By forming groups and securing financial support, individuals can engage in productive activities, sustain their livelihoods, and contribute positively to their communities.

Momanyi congratulated local bodaboda riders for their initiative in forming and registering groups, noting that their teamwork has already begun to yield positive results. She presented cheques of Sh147,000 to each registered bodaboda group in Nyamira County that submitted their financial support requests promptly.
