Nyando: The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, has reassured the public that Party Leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga, is in good health. This statement comes amid growing speculation over his two-week absence from the public limelight and political stage.
According to Kenya News Agency, Wanga addressed the issue while speaking in Nyando Constituency, Kisumu County, during a visit to condole with the area Member of Parliament (MP), Jared Okello, following the demise of his mother, Mama Doris Okello. Wanga criticized those speculating about Oburu’s condition, clarifying that Dr. Oburu’s absence from the party’s retreat in Mombasa earlier in the week was due to ill-health, from which he has now recovered.
Dr. Oburu himself had posted on his social media platforms, confirming his good health and sharing that he was playing golf with friends in Kisumu County. “Thank you for your concerns about my whereabouts. I am here in Kisumu, very vibrant, up and about playing golf and I wish all of you a very happy weekend,” he said in a video.
Wanga also directed criticism toward Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing him of creating disunity within the ODM Party. She highlighted Orengo’s actions in declaring himself as the Party Leader despite Dr. Oburu being the duly elected leader, warning against such attempts to create confusion and divide the party.
She urged local leaders to remain firm in defending the ODM party’s unity and to work together to unite residents. Wanga emphasized the need for the region to continue reaping benefits under the current government and dismissed talks of a single-term leadership.
