Wajir Gubernatorial Candidate Advocates Direct Voter Engagement

Wajir:Yahya Mohamed Dahiye, a candidate for the gubernatorial position in Wajir, has called on voters to avoid relying on political brokers and instead engage with candidates directly before deciding who to elect in the 2027 General Election.

According to Kenya News Agency, Dahiye emphasized the importance of residents listening to candidates, evaluating their proposals, and independently deciding whom to support, rather than depending on political intermediaries. During a grassroots campaign in Wajir town, he announced his commitment to a direct campaign strategy, aiming to connect with voters in their neighborhoods, markets, and other public venues.

Dahiye highlighted how direct engagement allows voters to address issues impacting their lives and obtain responses from candidates seeking election. He encouraged residents to assess the track records, ideas, and programs of candidates prior to making their support decisions, stressing that political choices should be made individually by voters.

His campaign model, he stated, would prioritize closer interactions with residents over established political networks or intermediaries. He intends to directly engage various community groups, including young people and job seekers, to discuss their concerns and communicate his political agenda.

Dahiye’s past experience as Wajir County Chief Officer for Finance has informed his understanding of public resource management, service delivery, and the necessity of creating economic opportunities for residents. He believes political leadership should be intertwined with addressing residents’ concerns and enhancing their livelihoods.

This direct campaign approach emerges amidst increasing political consultations and mobilization in Wajir as the 2027 General Election approaches. In contrast to the traditional reliance on community consultations and elder involvement in political decisions in Northern Kenya, Dahiye asserts that voters should have the chance to engage with diverse aspirants and make independent evaluations, free from intermediary influence.

Dahiye particularly encourages young people to participate actively in political processes and engage candidates on community issues. His campaign aims to foster direct communication between leaders and the electorate, allowing voters to question aspirants on their plans before offering support.

With the gubernatorial race anticipated to draw multiple candidates, Dahiye’s campaign will maintain its focus on direct voter interaction as he seeks to become the next governor of Wajir. He urges voters to take an active role in choosing their leadership, rather than allowing others to make those decisions on their behalf.
