Kwale: The Kwale County Government has launched a street lighting project in the Vuga area, Tsimba Golini Ward, aimed at enhancing security and promoting economic activities during the night. The initiative involves the installation of 30 street lights and was unveiled in Matuga Sub-county by Governor Fatuma Achani. This project is part of ongoing efforts to address long-standing insecurity concerns in the area.
According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Achani emphasized that the initiative will improve safety for residents while creating an enabling environment for businesses to operate beyond daylight hours. She stated, “This street lighting project will significantly improve security in Vuga, especially during the night, and create a safer environment for our people.” The governor also highlighted how improved lighting will support local traders by allowing them to extend their business hours, thereby boosting household incomes and strengthening the local economy.
Residents have welcomed the project, noting it will address insecurity challenges that have affected the area for years. Mariam Honza, a local resident, expressed that the initiative would not only enhance safety but also stimulate growth in Vuga town. She said, “This project is a big relief to us. It will not only improve security but also help grow Vuga town and expand business opportunities for many residents.” Honza also urged the County government to extend similar development projects to other parts of Kwale County, promoting equitable growth across the region.
