Karira Bridge Construction to Enhance Transport and Trade in Mwea

Mwea: Mwea Constituency MP Mary Maingi has reaffirmed her commitment to infrastructure development after visiting the ongoing construction of Karira Bridge in Mwea to inspect the progress of the works.

According to Kenya News Agency, during the inspection tour, the legislator expressed satisfaction with the steady progress being made on the project, describing the bridge as a key investment that will improve transport and connectivity for residents across the area. Maingi noted that the Karira Bridge project is very important for the people of Mwea, saying it will not only enhance movement but also improve safety for motorists, boda boda riders, farmers, traders, and school-going children who rely on the route daily.

She emphasized that the modern bridge is expected to ease transport challenges that residents have faced for years, especially during rainy seasons when movement becomes difficult and risky. The MP also highlighted the economic benefits already being realized through the project, pointing out that the construction works have created employment opportunities for local residents, particularly the youth.

She said the initiative is enabling many young people to earn a living while actively participating in community development. According to Maingi, development projects such as Karira Bridge go beyond infrastructure, as they directly contribute to improving livelihoods and strengthening local economies.

‘Seeing the modern bridge steadily take shape is a proud reminder that development is a continuous journey of improving lives and strengthening communities,’ she said.
