Nairobi: Suspected Pokot bandits killed a retired assistant chief from Baringo East on Saturday morning before fleeing the area. The incident has raised concerns about security in the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, Loosuk location senior chief, Mr. Philip Lerno, confirmed that the deceased was attacked inside his Manyatta just before dawn. The victim, who was a retired assistant chief of Pura Sub Location in Samburu Central, was targeted by the bandits in the early hours, a time often associated with vulnerability in rural regions.

The senior chief emphasized the gravity of the situation at the Loosuk trading center. Additionally, he highlighted a previous attack by the same raiders on the deceased’s son two weeks prior. The son, who was seriously injured, is currently recovering at Maralal Hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Mr. Lerno issued a warning to the bandits regarding their continued criminal activities, clearly stating that the government will not tolerate such gangs. This incident underscores ongoing security challenges and the need for increased vigilance and protective measures in the area.
