Vihiga: Officials from the Directorate of Environment, Energy and Natural Resources in Vihiga have undergone a capacity-building session on data management at the County Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory. The session aimed to enhance the participants’ skills in collecting and managing environmental data with improved accuracy and efficiency.
According to Kenya News Agency, the training focused on best practices in data handling and the utilization of digital tools, such as KOBO. KoboToolbox is known for its capabilities in collecting, analyzing, and managing data for surveys, monitoring, evaluation, and research. The training emphasized the importance of data cleaning and maintaining the accuracy, relevance, and efficiency of datasets collected by the department.
The session marks the first of its kind for the department, aimed at improving data quality and supporting evidence-based decision-making in environmental management. This initiative is part of the county government’s ongoing efforts to build staff capacity and incorporate technology in promoting sustainable environmental practices.
