Eldoret:Preparations for the 2026 UN Tourism Week and World Tourism Day celebrations intensified at the University of Eldoret on Thursday as Principal Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Amb. Prof. Julius Kibet Bitok, inspected arrangements for the events culminating on Sunday.
According to Kenya News Agency, Bitok was welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot. He is set to be the chief guest at the Agro-Tourism program on Friday, which is a key activity of the week-long event.
Bitok remarked that the University of Eldoret has established robust plans that highlight Kenya’s rising prominence in sustainable tourism. He expressed confidence that the celebrations will highlight the country’s diverse tourism offerings and bolster partnerships within the sector.
Prof. Cheruiyot shared that the university feels privileged to host the national events, emphasizing the collaborative potential between academia, communities, and industry in promoting tourism growth. He invited the public to visit the Charter Grounds, which are open to the public and feature various exhibitions.
The Charter Grounds are showcasing exhibitions of tourism products, innovations, cultural displays, enterprises, and community-based initiatives from the region. University officials encouraged visitors to engage with the exhibitors as the countdown to Sunday’s climax continues, celebrating the diversity and potential of Kenya’s tourism sector.
