Uasin gishu: Residents of Uasin Gishu County, particularly in the southern regions, have been advised against using charcoal Jikos in poorly ventilated rooms as a means to combat cold, with night temperatures predicted to drop to 9 degrees Celsius over the next week.

According to Kenya News Agency, the advisory was issued by the County Director of Meteorological Services, Kipkemei Simon Cheptot, following a weather forecast for the coming week. The forecast reveals that while the county will experience high temperatures between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperatures are expected to range from 9 to 10 degrees Celsius.

The forecast also anticipates sunny intervals in various locations in the morning, with early morning fog over areas like Moi’s-bridge Ward. Afternoon and evening conditions are expected to be partly cloudy, with regions such as Karuna Meibeki in Moiben Sub County and the southern parts of the county likely to see light showers.

Cheptot emphasized that the high temperatures could lead to dehydration, urging residents to stay hydrated by consuming plenty of fluids. He also reiterated the advisory against using charcoal Jikos in inadequately ventilated spaces due to the cold, particularly in the southern areas where the temperatures may drop significantly at night.

Additionally, the County Director warned about the risk of fires due to the prevailing daytime high temperatures and winds, urging residents to exercise caution. Motorists traveling on the Eldoret-Kitale and Eldoret-Webuye roads are advised to drive carefully, as the anticipated early morning fog could impair visibility.
