Nairobi:Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to providing a sustainable solution to persistent water shortages affecting Loturerei and Napetao villages in Kanamkemer Ward. Speaking during an empowerment programme for the Atoting’as Kaapei Women Group in Loturerei, the Governor said the Department of Climate Change would explore funding opportunities to support the extension of piped water to the two areas after previous attempts to drill boreholes failed due to high salinity levels.
According to Kenya News Agency, Lomorukai directed Kanamkemer Ward MCA James Ikeny to work closely with technical officers from relevant county departments to ensure adequate resources are allocated for the implementation of the proposed water supply project. He expressed support for the ongoing disarmament exercise in Turkana South and urged security agencies to uphold the rule of law while respecting the rights and dignity of women during the operation. Lomorukai said his administration remains focused on implementing programmes that directly improve residents’ livelihoods, particularly in the areas of peacebuilding, livestock development, food security, and water access. He added that these priorities would continue to guide his leadership despite political distractions.
The Governor cited ongoing investments in strategic water infrastructure, including water projects in Kalemng’orok, as part of the county’s efforts to improve access to water for domestic use and livestock production in pastoral and banditry-prone areas. He dismissed criticism from his political opponents, saying his administration would remain focused on service delivery rather than political rhetoric.
