Timboroa-Kopere Road Nears Completion, Expected to Drive Economic Growth in Tinderet

Tinderet:Residents of Tinderet Sub-County in Nandi County are optimistic about the near completion of the 56-kilometre Timboroa-Taptengelei-Maraba-Senetwo-Songhor-Kopere Junction Road. This infrastructure project is expected to significantly enhance transport, improve access to essential services, and stimulate economic growth in the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Sh2.6 billion road project is 95 percent complete. It promises to ease the movement of people and goods, reduce travel time, and lower transportation costs for farmers, traders, and other road users in the area.

John Kiptoo, a matatu operator, noted that the improved road would make public transport more reliable while reducing vehicle maintenance costs associated with travelling on poor roads. He expressed optimism that smoother journeys and fewer vehicle breakdowns would benefit both passengers and operators by reducing repair and fuel costs.

Traders are eagerly anticipating increased business activity as the road improvements will facilitate better access to markets and more efficient delivery of goods. Mary Chebet, a trader at Maraba trading centre, highlighted how poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season, often delayed deliveries and increased transportation expenses. A reliable road, she said, would help ensure timely supply deliveries and reduce transport costs.

Farmers in the region also look forward to the road’s completion, as it is expected to improve the transportation of produce to markets, collection centres, and cooperatives. David Sirma, a local farmer, explained that poor roads previously increased transport costs, adversely affecting their earnings. He believes that a more reliable road will enable faster delivery of produce and better negotiation opportunities with buyers.

Additionally, students are expected to benefit from improved connectivity, which could make daily commutes to schools and colleges more convenient and reliable. Peter Rotich, a student from the area, emphasized that better transport would help learners arrive on time for classes and engage more consistently in academic activities.

The road is anticipated to strengthen trade links between Nandi and neighbouring Uasin Gishu County, creating opportunities for businesses to expand into wider markets. Residents have called for the project’s completion to adhere to high standards, with proper drainage systems and durable road surfaces to ensure year-round accessibility. They stress that timely completion and proper maintenance will be crucial in securing the project’s anticipated benefits, including lower transport costs, improved household incomes, and enhanced service delivery.
