Chuka: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Tharaka Nithi County has achieved 99.34 percent of its target during the recently concluded Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, signaling strong turnout across the county. Speaking to the press at his office in Chuka, County IEBC Coordinator Mohammed Raka said they registered 26,256 new voters against a target of 26,450 during the month-long exercise. “We have performed very well, attaining 99.34 percent of our target, which reflects a strong response from residents,” he said.
According to Kenya News Agency, Raka noted that Igambang’ombe Constituency exceeded its target by a wide margin, registering 12,338 voters against a target of 9,653, representing a 127 percent achievement. Tharaka Constituency also surpassed its target, recording 9,111 new voters against 8,442, translating to 108 percent performance. However, Maara Constituency fell short of its target, registering 4,807 voters against a projected 8,355, achieving 57.5 percent.
Raka clarified that although the ECVR exercise has officially ended, voter registration remained ongoing at all IEBC constituency offices across the country during normal working hours. He added that registration services were also available at the local Huduma Centres, with four centres including Chuka, Kathwana, Marimanti, and Maara currently operational within Tharaka Nithi County.
The County IEBC Coordinator further revealed that the county’s voter register has grown from 232,000 voters in 2022 to the current 258,250, reflecting a steady increase in voter enrolment. On voter mobility, Raka said the commission has received 906 voter transfer requests, which are currently being processed. He urged eligible residents who are yet to register as voters to take advantage of the ongoing continuous registration services available at IEBC offices countrywide.
