Nandi Hills: Eastern Produce Kenya (EPK), a tea company in Nandi Hills Sub-County, Nandi County, has donated tents and plastic chairs to Tumaini Township Self Help Group (TTSHG), a women’s group, in a bid to boost and empower them economically. As part of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, EPK focuses on celebrating the achievements of women by encouraging their ventures.

According to Kenya News Agency, EPK acknowledged the significant milestone that the women’s group has made in their endeavors, a reason the Company decided to donate chairs and tents that will be part of income-generating activity through hiring out, thus boosting them economically. Joyce Magetu, a representative of Eastern Produce Kenya Limited, highlighted the importance of women supporting each other and working together to achieve their goals. She praised the Tumaini Township Self Help Group for their resilience and dedication to their projects, particularly their efforts to create washable sanitary towels for those in need.

Magetu noted that Eastern Produce Kenya Limited donated two 100-seater tents, one canopy tent, and 200 chairs. The donation will allow the group to rent out the tents and chairs for events, generating income to support their ongoing projects and empowering them to continue making a positive impact in their community. ‘I want to celebrate all members of TTSHG for their initiative of recognizing the underprivileged women and children in the society. I also recognize the management of EPK for their commitment in supporting community initiatives,’ pointed Magetu.

TTSHG, which was established in 2018, has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for women in the area, with their primary focus being creating sustainable income opportunities and promoting financial independence for women. Speaking during the event held in Nandi Hills Town garden, the group Chair, Dianah Ochieng, divulged that TTSHG has achieved remarkable success in various initiatives, including the production of washable sanitary towels for underprivileged women and children. Their dedication and perseverance have earned them recognition and support from local authorities and organizations, including the Nandi County Women’s Enterprise program and EPK.

Sub-county Women Enterprise Officer, Hellen Kirwa, expressed her admiration for the Tumaini Township Self Group’s unwavering commitment to their goals, emphasizing that empowering women is a catalyst for positive change in the community. Kirwa lauded the group for graduating from Sh100,000 to the current funding of Sh200,000, observing that this will empower the group to expand their business ventures and further contribute to the economic well-being of their community. The group plans to utilize the funds to purchase additional materials, improve their production processes, and explore new avenues for expanding their reach.

Kirwa further stated that recent funding from the Nandi County Women’s Enterprise program will allow the Tumaini Township Self Group to expand their operations, potentially creating more jobs and providing greater economic opportunities for their members. ‘I am deeply impressed by the passion and determination of these women; they have not only created a strong network of support for each other but have also demonstrated remarkable resilience in overcoming challenges. When you empower a woman, you empower a family, a community, and ultimately the entire world. Investing in women’s economic empowerment is an investment in a brighter future for all,’ said Kirwa, adding that the group’s commitment to providing these towels to those in need exemplifies their dedication to improving the lives of their community members.
