Kisii:Kassim Abdi Sebo, suspected to be the ‘chief goon’ in Homa Bay County, will remain in police custody for six days as the Probation Office prepares a comprehensive pre-bail report.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate Caroline Cheruiyot ordered Sebo to be remanded at the Kisii GK Main Prison. This decision allows the Probation Department time to present the report in court. Sebo, who was arraigned, pleaded not guilty to assault charges.
The charges relate to an incident involving Maurice Auko at the Homa Bay Bus Terminal on July 9, 2026. Sebo’s advocate, Nyamweya Mogusu, argued for bail, citing the right to bail or bond in assault cases. Mogusu also claimed Sebo required urgent medical attention due to being assaulted in custody.
The prosecutor, Vera Amolo, opposed the bail application, labeling Sebo a flight risk and alleging he may interfere with witnesses. Amolo noted Sebo’s previous failure to appear for plea-taking, which led to a warrant for his arrest.
Magistrate Cheruiyot acknowledged Sebo’s past failure to attend court but found no sufficient evidence of witness interference. The court has directed the Probation Department to prepare a report detailing Sebo’s personal circumstances and likelihood of attending court.
In the meantime, Sebo is to receive medical treatment from both a private doctor and a doctor from the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, with a medical report to be submitted to the court. The case is scheduled for mention on Monday, October 19, 2026, for further directions.
