Ol-Kalou:Nyandarua College students from Nyandarua County are voicing their concerns over the inadequacy of financial aid, pointing out that limited bursaries often do not meet the rising costs of tuition and living expenses.
According to Kenya News Agency, the students are advocating for enhanced mentorship programs that would offer guidance, career pathways, and networking opportunities to help alleviate financial challenges.
During an induction training for the Nyandarua County and Tertiary Students Association (NTCSA) leadership in Ol-Kalou town, student leaders emphasized the insufficient current funding amid the growing demand for higher education. Joseph Mathenge and Simon Kimani, the NTCSA Secretary General and Chairperson respectively, are calling for the reinstatement of bursary issuance by county governments to assist more needy students.
They also urged that the legal challenges surrounding the bursary fund be resolved promptly to address the issue.
Edward Kigo, Chief Officer for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, reiterated the county’s commitment to supporting youth and students, noting the creation of more internship opportunities and encouraging students to utilize such initiatives.
