Makindu: Over 8,000 residents of Ngaakaa-Twaandu in Makindu Ward are set to access advanced healthcare services following the planned construction of a state-of-the-art Level 3 hospital. The hospital will feature a mother and child section, a fully equipped maternity wing, a laboratory, procedure rooms, a pharmacy, a records unit, and an administration block. It is being jointly funded by World Vision Kenya and Mountain Blue Foundation.
According to Kenya News Agency, the County Department of Health Services Chief Officer, Dr. Harvey Mulei, stated that the project will include the installation of solar power to provide sustainable energy to the health facility. Dr. Mulei mentioned that the new construction will replace the existing dispensary, which will help alleviate congestion that has been a problem when patients visit to seek services.
Dr. Mulei also noted that the county government would provide the necessary staff to reduce the pressure on existing health facilities. He added that procurement of essential medical equipment is ongoing. Additionally, the health facility will source clean water from the Kiboko-Twaandu water project, which will also benefit area residents.
Furthermore, Dr. Mulei stated that Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. is expected to officially commission the facility in a month’s time.
