Makueni county: Six people lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred within Makueni County.

According to Kenya News Agency, the first accident claimed the lives of four family members when their vehicle rolled several times after a front tyre burst, landing in a ditch in the Utafiti area along the Kibwezi-Kitui road. The accident occurred in Kibwezi Subcounty, and among the deceased were a teacher, Ms. Jackline Mwaniki from St. Mary Kinyambu Secondary School, her daughter Christine Mutheu, and two other relatives, Tabitha Moki and Janet Kituku. Kibwezi traffic base Commander Maurice Situma confirmed the incident, noting that Ms. Mwaniki was driving the Toyota Fielder involved in the accident and died while receiving treatment at Amref Kibwezi Hospital. Fortunately, another passenger, Daniel Mueti, escaped the crash unhurt. The bodies were transferred to Kibwezi Funeral Home for preservation as they await postmortem examinations.

In the second accident, a boda boda rider and a pillion passenger were killed instantly in a head-on collision with a vehicle at Christopher Kiamba area along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. Mukaa Subcounty Police Commander Abduba Hussein confirmed that the vehicle involved was a Scania, registration number KCU 756C, belonging to Exotic SACCO and driven by Joseph Ngari. The vehicle was en route to Mombasa when it collided with the Sonlik motorcycle. The wreckage from the accident was taken to Sultan Hamud Police Station for inspection, and the bodies were moved to Sultan Hamud Level 4 Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
