Kirinyaga: The Sh3 billion road project stretching 65 kilometers across three constituencies in Kirinyaga County has reached 77 percent completion. The project, being undertaken by China Wuyi Company Ltd under Contract No. RWC 549, had construction works resume on April 28, 2025, after months of delay due to pending payments.
According to Kenya News Agency, the road network covers multiple sections, including Mutithi-Kagio/Baricho-Getuya-Kagumo/Kagumo-Kimaina-Gathuthuma-Gatwe/Kimicha-Canal/Ndaba-Kangai/Kandongu-Kangiciri/Kagio-Kathaka-Kiangwaci/Kandongu-Kangiciri-Karira Mission Hospital-Ngurubani. Once completed, it is expected to benefit residents of Ndia, Kirinyaga Central, and Mwea constituencies by easing transport, boosting trade, and enhancing access to health and education facilities.
Currently, the contractor is working on the eighth milestone along the Canal-Kangiciri-Ngurubani Road and the ninth milestone along the Baricho-Kiamaina-Gatwe Road, with 47.055 kilometers already tarmacked. The Kirinyaga County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee, chaired by the County Commissioner Hussein Aliso, inspected the project and expressed satisfaction with the quality of works.
The contractor assured the committee that the project will be delivered on time, despite previous setbacks due to delayed payments.
