Kilifi:The Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism has expressed concerns over the absence of a clear fiscal strategy for completing and sustaining an industrial park project in the Moi area of Sabaki Ward, Magarini Constituency.
According to Kenya News Agency, the committee, headed by Kwale Senator Issa Juma Boy, inspected the ongoing construction on Tuesday to evaluate the project’s progress. Senators Enock Wambua and Okiya Omtatah were also present during the visit. The project is currently 25 percent complete, despite earlier expectations of completion by December 2026.
While the committee noted satisfaction with the progress, members raised questions regarding the funding for the remaining construction and the sustainability plan once the facility becomes operational. Senator Boy stated that the committee would seek clarification from relevant authorities about the project’s financing and long-term operational framework.
The committee plans to compile its findings and make recommendations, with the project’s financing and sustainability expected to be key elements of its report. The Senate is conducting sessions in Kilifi County as part of the Senate Mashinani initiative, with various committees verifying projects referenced in the Auditor General’s Report. Plenary sessions are also being held at the County Assembly of Kilifi, led by Speaker Amason Kingi.
